GSHD 2 Update: Team Traditionalist’s Captain Announced

To date, the Great Sherlock Holmes Debate 2 captains for Team 1 (BBC Sherlock) and Team 2 (WB Sherlock) have been announced to much excitement and fanfare - leaving only The Traditionalists sans leader. Any sensible challenger to either team should take note of just exactly what/who they are up against: on the one hand, any would-be opponent will face the youthful, intense energy of Curly & the Baker Street Babes while on the other hand contend with the lifetime of Sherlockian knowledge and experience embodied in the leadership of Mr Burt Wolder and the seriously prepared WB Sherlock supporters….

Which is why it gives me great pleasure to announce the captain for The Traditionalists, a captain who stands a good chance of ‘exterminating’ and/or ‘deleting’ the competition: Nicholas Briggs aka the voice of the Daleks and Cybermen! As an added bonus and since the live component of the GSHD 2 is happening in London, Mr Briggs has agreed to appear in person! If memory serves, Mr Briggs was, in an ironic technological twist of fate for a Cyberman, locked out of the online debate last November (my theory for the tech difficulties can be seen here). This time, we can safely assume, it’s personal!

[Briggs prepares for the GSHD 2 in his Secret Laboratory of War.]

Nicholas Briggs’ Sherlockian credentials include an appearance on stage at Nottingham’s Theatre Royal as Sherlock Holmes in Holmes and the Ripper by Brian Clemens. Off stage, Briggs has worked extensively with Big Finish - purveyors of some of the finest Holmes, Who, etc. audio/radio programs - on both Sherlock Holmes as well as Doctor Who projects. In regards to how Mr Briggs makes that Cyberman voice: “As shown in the second series of Doctor Who Confidential, the timbre of the voice of the Cybermen was created by processing Brigg’s voice through a Moog ‘moogerfooger’ ring modulator.”

[Will Captain Briggs and Team Traditionalists make this man proud? You can bet on it!]
