Hunting Crop Addendum
While watching the “The Red Headed League” (REDH Granada, 1985) before work this morning I was thrilled to notice Holmes prepare for his City and Suburban Bank vault stake out by grabbing that most singular and ‘loaded’ weapon, the hunting crop!
As a short visual addendum to my review of Don Arp Jr.’s BSJ piece on Holmes’ weapon of choice, here are a few stills from Granada’s REDH:

[Holmes grabs his hunting crop as he briefs Inspector Athelney Jones and bank manager/director Mr. Merryweather (seen in mirror) for their night out.]

[Not only is the hunting crop a singular weapon but also a superb speaking prop!]

[Note the leather strap at one end and the crooked handle at the other.]
[Holmes waits in the dark for Vincent ‘half-wages’ Spaulding aka John ‘the fourth smartest man in London’ Clay to emerge….]

[…and THWACK! The hunting crop in action!!]
I love that shot of Holmes waiting in the dark. Dare I try to make my own animated GIF for submission to FYeahGranada?
P.S. As I notice more instances of Holmes and his hunting crop in other episodes I’ll post them here.
